The 1st quarter 2013 Knight Barry newsletter is out. If you are a lender you should read and understand the section on Best Practices and compare Knight Barry’s practices with other local title companies to be sure your documents and funds are secure. This is the American Land Title Association’s big push for 2013 and you don’t want to ignore the benefits available to you and your customers.
A1031 Tax Deferred Exchange (aka Starker Exchange) allows a property investor to sell investment real estate and defer the capital gains tax until some time in the future. Well it’s not exactly that simple. There are many rules and deadlines that need to be precisely followed in order to complete an exchange. We can provide more information upon request and will work with your tax adviser to put the proper agreements in place to assist you with your transaction. While 1031’s haven’t necessarily been hot items in the past few years, things are really heating up in commercial and investment real estate now. Knight Barry handles these tax exchanges and has noticed that the volume of exchange business is way up. (Note: that in the final week of January 2013, we had more 1031 orders than the entire months of November and December). This is quite different than the volume over the past five years and we are happy to see the return of this business segment. In order to stay current with the latest standards, latest security measures, and newest technology, we’ve completely redesigned our main website from the ground up. This includes separating our blog out into it’s own site to allow more frequent updates, direct integration with Twitter, and a lot more bells and whistles!
You may also notice that all of our online services are beginning to use SSL encryption to ensure all information transmitted to and from our servers is as secure as possible. With the newly released “ALTA’s Title Insurance and Settlement Company Best Practices“, Knight Barry will strive to maintain its position as one of the industry’s technology leaders.

Most Knight Barry offices are currently experiencing a phone system outage. A major fiber cable has been cut in Indiana and this is causing a major outage with Windstream & AT&T throughout the midwest. They are currently working on it, but we do not have an ETA on fix.
This outage is affecting most Knight Barry office phone systems (except MN & IL branches). All offices do have access to email.
Customers can contact individual employees via email or cell phone.
